Suba Subramaniam
Education Director
A choreographer and one of the foremost Bharat Natyam dancers in England, Suba is also a qualified science teacher and is currently completing an MA in Education. As both choreographer and teacher Suba believes strongly in combining science and the arts as an effective way into climate change for young people.
Suba joined Cape Farewell on the first expedition in 2003 as presenter of Cape Farewell’s first educational resource, the GCSE Geography package The High Arctic - North To Svalbard. During the voyage Colin Izod and Suba developed an ambition to take a group of teenagers to the Arctic. In September 2007 this ambition was realised with the first youth expedition to Svalbard.
Following the expedition they worked with Creative Partnerships in the UK and British Council in Canada to produce a climate blueprint. This blueprint is a resource for schools, allowing individual schools to develop their own creative climate change activities and are currently working with the British Council, Canada to deliver the 2007 Youth Expedition.
Suba has worked on other innovative youth engagement projects such as Dancing on Thin Ice at Villiers High School. She is artistic co-director of Angika, a leading South Asian dance company in the UK. See Suba's artist profile for more detail on Angika and her dance practice.
