Karen Turner

Strategic Development Associate

Karen Turner joined Cape Farewell in September 2007 as Strategic Development Associate through the Cultural Leadership Programme.  Joining Cape Farewell to explore strategic focus and options for development this short term position (to July 2008) has offered a wealth of new experiences around climate art and across art forms.

Prior to joining Cape Farewell Karen was on the senior executive team at the Crafts Council managing the Business Development portfolio and seeking opportunities for partnership in the crafts.  Key projects at the Crafts Council included the development of the Next Move scheme, the launch of COLLECT at the V&A and the transition from Chelsea Crafts Fair to Origin in partnership with Somerset House Trust.   With Cape Farewell Karen has had the opportunity to combine her experience of the crafts with the first applied arts commission for Cape Farewell of Clare Twomey at the Eden Project and a new partnership between Cape Farewell and the Crafts Council to ensure applied artists can be among the next dynamic grouping of creative individuals to explore climate science first hand.

This placement is supported by the Cultural Leadership Programme.
